Email order confirmation
Email order confirmation
An order confirmation email is a transactional email triggered automatically after a customer completes a purchase. Its primary purpose is to confirm the transaction and provide the customer with important details about their order.
Typical contents include:
- Order number and summary
- Purchased items
- Billing and shipping addresses
- Payment confirmation
- Estimated delivery or shipping info
- Customer support contact
Order confirmations are legally and functionally distinct from marketing emails. Because they are transactional, they are exempt from certain compliance requirements in many jurisdictions, but to meet that classification they must not contain promotional content. Adding marketing elements (e.g., product suggestions or discount offers) can jeopardize compliance and negatively impact deliverability.
