Email’s Not Dead: Mailgun’s new podcast
Where did email start, how did it get to where it is, and where is it going? We discuss all things email in our new podcast — Email's Not Dead.

Whenever someone says that they think email is on its way out, we always like asking them if they’ve checked their inbox in the past day. Nine times out of ten they have, so what’s the deal??
Email has become so second nature that they forget how often they check it. By no means does that mean email is on its way out. In fact, we’d argue that it means email thriving more than ever.
But where did it start, how did it get to where it is, and where is it going? We could write pages about these questions, or we could talk about them while you drive into work on your morning commute. Audio wasn’t something Mailgun had done yet, and we figured hey, why not
So, Mailgun got a couple of our Technical Account Managers together and created our podcast: Email’s Not Dead!
Wait, Mailgun has a podcast?
Now we do! Email’s Not Dead has two episodes out right now, and you can find them wherever you listen to podcasts: Apple, Overcast, Stitcher, Spotify; you get the idea. We plan on covering just about anything related to email, but we wanted to start with a miniseries about something everyone is plagued with — SPAM.
Episode 1: The History of Spam
To give you a quick rundown of what we’ll be talking about, our very first episode goes over the brief history of spam. Where it came from, who coined the phrase, when it started, you get the idea. Yes, we do talk a little bit about the first person to ever send out a spam email. We feel kinda bad for him; what a way to be remembered, right?
Episode 2: Now that’s what I call Spam
Spam didn’t end with the first spam message, and that caught the attention of just about everyone. Policy makers started to fight back in the early 2000s, and that’s when we saw the rise of anti-spam policies and pushback. CAN-SPAM came to fruition around the same time as some terrible double-digit music compilation CD. Thank goodness CAN-SPAM was good because we can’t say the same for that CD series.
What will y’all cover next?
We’re not entirely done with spam just yet; we haven’t covered where we think spam and spam efforts are headed. Once we’ve laid out our predictions and get done with spam, the email world is our oyster! We don’t want to give away all that we have planned just yet, but we can tell you that we’ll be having a live podcast recording as a joint webinar with 250ok
The podcast will be recorded live on June 26 at 1 PM CT, and you should join in! A few special guests will join our hosts, and if you have any questions, send them to us..
